What the words mean

The same short explanations sit behind an i button on every screen where the word appears. They are generic: what the term means, never what to do about it.

i Fees

What the exchange charges to buy and to sell. Usually a small percentage of the amount, taken on both sides. We use the exchange's published schedule at its worst tier, because nobody is upset when their real cost turns out lower.

i Basis points

One basis point is one hundredth of one percent. $5,000 at 1 basis point is 50 cents. Costs are quoted this way because they are usually small numbers that add up.

i Funding

A payment that changes hands every few hours between people holding a perpetual contract, in one direction or the other. If you hold the actual coin, called spot, there is no funding. Cards say which one they are pricing.

i Liquidity, spread and impact

Whether your amount can get in and out without moving the price. The spread is the gap between the buy and sell price; impact is how much your own order pushes it. We measure both from the order book at your amount.

i Swing and fall

Swing is how much the price usually moves in a month. Fall is the worst drop from a high in the last year, and whether it has come back since.

i Yield, earned or printed

Some positions pay a yield. Earned means it comes from fees or interest that someone actually paid. Printed means it is paid in new tokens that the protocol creates, which can stop or lose value. Cards say which, in points of the total.

Risk warning

Don't invest unless you're prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong.
